Summary

Whether this is your first time reading poetry or you’ve dog-eared every page, come as you are. You don’t need to finish (or even start) the book to participate — we’ll read aloud together, make space for reflection, and offer gentle creative prompts for those who want to write or share. A warm, inclusive space for LGBTQIA+ folks, allies, and radical readers to gather in community, spark meaningful conversations, and celebrate queer voices in literature.

Description

Lavender Library: Queer Reading Club!

Join us for the inaugural meeting of Lavender Library, a monthly queer book club rooted in radical care, honest conversation, and community connection. This month’s theme, a collection of works by author Andrea Gibson, invites us to explore poetry that illuminates, ignites, and transforms. We'll be reading sections from Andrea Gibson’s various books and collections. Including You Better Be Lightning, Lord of the Butterflies, and more! Tender, electric collections that touch on grief, gender, chronic illness, and queer love with unflinching beauty.

We’ll share select readings, reflect together, and engage in a creative activity inspired by the book’s themes. No materials or prior reading required — come as you are.

When it comes to attire, we want to encourage comfort and expression at Wicked Eden. We want you to feel comfortable and in the mood to have an adventure! We want you to feel safe expressing yourself in whatever you desire. We encourage you to go outside your comfort zone with festive, outrageous, or fantastic clothing you never get to wear anywhere else.

VOLUNTEERS

We LOVE volunteers! Join our team of community volunteers, and you will find new friends, a support system, and a tight-knit center of empowerment.

By volunteering with us, you can make a meaningful impact on people's lives. Still, you will also get perks such as discounted or free access to our events and classes and, most importantly, collaborative input into what we do here. Your ideas are important to us, and as a volunteer, we want you to feel like you're part of our community: one that celebrates who you are and supports your journey.

We're committed to inclusivity. Our community is a tapestry of individuals from diverse racial, ethnic, and social backgrounds, including all gender identities and expressions. We encourage everyone to engage with empathy and curiosity, always asking rather than assuming someone's identity or preferences. Our space is and always will be wheelchair accessible, with multiple spaces for varying sensory needs.
